The use of ceramic foam filters in the foundry allows us to solve two important problems in the first place: to clean the casting metal from non-metallic inclusions and to ensure the laminar metal flow in the gate-feeding system.
The high filtering properties of the filters are determined by the open 3D structure of the ceramic matrix formed by a system of interconnected pores.
These filters are characterized by very good thermal conductivity, stability and resistance to sudden changes in temperature.
Different materials are used for the production of filters, depending on the physicochemical and foundry properties of the metal being poured (pour temperature, fluidity, etc.).
Filters (Al2O3 – C): designed for one-time filtration of aluminum and aluminum alloys to a temperature of 850 ° C.
They are used exclusively for installation in the gate system of the mold in a filter funnel made of insulating materials or in exothermic extensions.
The advantage of these filters is, first of all, their low density, low heat capacity and ability to quickly heat up.
Filters (Al2O3): designed primarily for filtering aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous metals at temperatures up to 1350 ° C (for foundries and metallurgical shops).
They can be used both for one-time filtration of metal in the gating system, and for re-filtration of large volumes of metal during casting.
Filters (ZrO2): designed to filter steel, primarily high-alloy grades, where high reliability and chemical purity are required (aviation industry, energy, etc.).
Their advantage is high mechanical strength, which allows them to be used in filtration systems of large-sized castings (carousels, gratings).
Filters (Al2O3 – C): designed to filter ferrous metal alloys (cast iron, steel) to a temperature of 1700 ° C.
High stability of the filter during casting and high thermal conductivity together with low mass create the prerequisites for rapid heating of the filter and minimize heat loss.
Due to these properties, these filters can be used for direct casting of metal through exothermic profits and for filtering in the manufacture of large cast iron castings.
